Introducing

THE GRADE THREE CLASSROOM

Grade Three is an exciting transition. New ideas and concepts are explored, and students advance academically. As students’ progress in their education they learn to be more independent as well as work with teams. Grade 3 commences the transition from being in the primary grades to a junior in elementary.

Language & Literacy

Children in grade 3 learn to be good readers. They begin to summarize what they’ve read, as a sign of comprehension. They are encouraged to ask questions about what they’re reading. They explore the different genres and look at different print forms such as newspapers, and magazines.

Third graders also learn organizational methods that help them prepare for more complex writing assignments. They’ll create maps, webs, and venn diagrams (diagrams used to compare and contrast two things) to plan their work. They’ll write reports, creative fiction, and personal narratives. They’ll also be asked to take more responsibility for the writing process, including revising, editing, and proof reading.

Math

Math becomes much more challenging and exciting. Students work with larger whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. They explore odd and even numbers and look at patterns involving those numbers. Advanced addition and subtraction is discovered, and they are introduced to multiplication and division, which they solve and explain. Unlike grades 1 and 2, less physical materials are used, and students are encouraged to work on paper and in their heads.

Science & Technology

Science becomes much more detailed as students are introduced to new concepts surrounding forces causing movements, soils in the environment, growth and changes in plants, and strong and stable structures. They are asked to make smart guesses about their observations.

Islamic Studies

Day to day basic Islamic principles is reinforced at the school at all times. Duaa’s, Surahs, Fiqh, Adaab, and Aqaaid, are taught in our Islamic studies class, daily.
